The Wake Up Call to Evolve
Transcript
What is actually happening?
Old thinking got us into this mess. We need new thinking. Old thinking will not get us out of this mess.
Every problem comes bearing its own solution
By virtue of the fact that it is bringing up a lot of pain, it is changing us as people. That is what suffering does, that is the usefulness of feeling terrible—it motivates us to feel good. We seek solutions, reconciliations, and if we do it well, we become wiser. We are intelligent but we are so lacking in wisdom, so our collective suffering gives us the opportunity to mature as a country and gain wisdom. If it wasn’t clear already, we now can see that having a high IQ does not mean that you are wise or that you have the ability to affect change through other humans. We were given the gift of nuclear energy and we used our intellects to build weapons of mass destruction. This is not wise. This is NOT smart.
We are reckoning with the evolution of the human species : our behavior patterns have become maladaptive. We compete rather than cooperate ; we are violent with one another; we have lost our reverence for the planet itself and most important we have become self reverential. Rugged individualism has become rugged narcissism. We are way too focused on ourselves, we are too focused on those who agree with us, and unwilling to expand our circle of compassion beyond those who may not agree with us. So at this point there is a great recalibration going on, where we are being given the opportunity to be someone new. We are not as naïve as a country as we were 10 years ago. We understand now that not everyone believes in democracy,
Our rational mind will use the past to try to predict the future. And given our history, with as recent as WW2, it looks pretty bleak, and so our rational minds will tell us to fight.
But we are being invited into a higher mind, one that is not always relying on logic and the past. It’s a higher mind that uses imagination to dream up something new that has never existed. While that sounds really abstract, it isn’t at all. This is exactly what drove our civil rights movement—I have a dream. King knew it was possible to achieve equal rights even though at the time it was rationally so improbable. It wasn’t logical to push forward for civil rights, they were pushed forward with a belief in what is possible. This was Martin Luther King, this was Ghandi.
We have become a people who have so overvalued our masculine characteristics, that we have lost touch with the feminine. By that I don’t mean men and women, I mean more like yin and yang. We each have a combination of characteristics that lean toward yin or lean toward yang. What are the YIN or Masculine characteristics? …… (provide examples) We are going through a massive recalibration. We need MORE feminine. We need to rebalance and have respect for each—the need and usefulness of the masculine, and the need and usefulness of the feminine. We have devalued the feminine.
So, what does all of this mean to you?
- Look for opportunities to collaborate and serve.
- Look for opportunities to give people a second chance, to give them the benefit of the doubt
- Do your own work. Your relationship with you always comes first. Those who feel strong and centered are in the best position to help. You each should be actively seeking out mindset work to help you change. The world needs to change and it really cannot change if you don’t. All change comes from changing the mind.
- Keep a vision of what is possible in your own mind. Right now, most of us know what we don’t want, but do we know what we DO want?
- The opposite of fear is trust—can you drop the struggle to fix and control and trust that something is moving and shifting in our best interest? That we do not have the perspective to see it or understand it. We need to be more humble—maybe we don’t know for sure? Maybe we only THINK we know what is in our best interest, but what if we can’t possibly have enough vision to know?
- Only you know what action you are supposed to be taking right now. Not everyone is supposed to be an activist, only you know. So drop the judgment of yourself and others, and pay attention to the opportunities in front of you to help.
- Our higher mind is the one that is aware of and attached to and aligned with the deeper intelligence of the Universe. That we are not alone controlling all of the outcomes of our life, we are cells in a much larger organism.
We celebrate rugged individualism… and end up in rugged narcissism.
Our brain’s desire to seek pleasure and avoid pain is exploited and monetized with addictive food, gambling apps, drugs, and endless numbers of ways to entertain ourselves.
We’ve become so self-focused that we’ve lost reverence—
for each other, for the Earth, and for the mystery that binds us all.
So now, a great recalibration is underway.
This is our moment to grow up as a species.
To shift from intellect to wisdom. From force to flow. From separation to connection.
That shift requires a new mind.
Not just a rational mind—one that goes to the past to forecast the future.
But a higher mind—a mind that is connected to imagination, trust, creativity, and possibility.
This is the mind of Martin Luther King when he said: “I have a dream.”
It wasn’t logical to dream of civil rights.
It wasn’t rational to believe that peace was possible for India under Ghandi.
But both men led from a vision that hadn’t yet materialized.
They led from the higher mind.
And that’s the mind we’re being invited into now.
So what’s been in the way?
We’ve overvalued the masculine.
By that, I do not mean men—not gender—but a certain kind of energy: yang.
Masculine or yang energy is:
Action-oriented
Logical and decisive
Goal-driven
Competitive
Protective
Structured
These are not bad traits. They’re essential.
But we’ve neglected their feminine (yin) counterparts:
Being open and receptive.
Less about action and more about the ability to adapt and move and flow with life’s natural rhythms
Intuitive
Emotional depth and intelliegence
The feminine is associated with artistic creativity and beauty for beauty’s sake
Not decisive—more wait and see, patient, let’s let things play out
Nurturing and compassion, emphasizing a desire to support and uplift others.
Collaborative, open to new ideas and different perspectives
Wisdom from stillness, not speed and productivity
And the feminine is associated with renewal, birth, healing and the creation of life itself.
When we abandon the feminine, we lose our center.
We forget that there is value in the invisible. We see evidence of it everywhere—one that jumps out at me is that we have de-emphasized emphasis the beauty of buildings, and the beauty of our town centers. I’m always struck by the grandeur of ordinary apartment buildings and public spaces in Paris, or the churches of Italy, and the zocolos or town centers in Mexico City---we all love them because they are beautiful. But we’ve become increasingly logical and utilitarian, more yang and less yin. We undervalue investment in beauty for beauty’s sake. And we suffer for it.
We become machines—efficient, productive, and completely disconnected.
That’s why this moment is so powerful. We’re being asked to rebalance.
We don’t need to reject the masculine—we need to reclaim the feminine and bring both into harmony.
So what does this mean for you—right now, in your daily life?
Here are five powerful ways to affect change, starting with yourself:
The first is very simple….We are moving away from competition and toward collaboration…so ask, “How can I help?”
Give people the benefit of the doubt.
The world doesn’t need more judgment and criticism—it needs more grace. Extend compassion, even when it’s hard.Do your own work.
Your relationship with yourself sets the tone for every relationship you have.
Strengthen it. Nourish it. I highly encourage you to consider Thought Work and mindset work to be your highest priority. I mean it.
The world can’t change if you don’t. And ALL change starts in the mind. Same mind, same thoughts equals same world. You have to start becoming aware of what is causing YOU pain and change it, heal it. Take responsibility for your own work.Hold a vision for what’s possible.
Most people know what they don’t want. But do you know what you do want?
Dream forward, not backward. The higher mind uses imagination to create what’s never existed before. Think MORE about what you DO want. Hold that vision, take small steps toward it.
- 5. Trust more, control less.
The opposite of fear isn’t safety—it’s trust.
What if you don’t have the full perspective?
What if something is shifting in our favor, even if you don’t yet see how? can you drop the struggle to fix and control and trust that something is moving and shifting in our best interest? We need to be more humble—maybe we don’t know for sure? Maybe we only THINK we know what is in our best interest, but what if we can’t possibly have enough vision to know? It doesn’t mean you stop taking action and become a passive doormat. On the contrary, when you trust that there is a deeper intelligence that YOU are a part of and not separate from, you step up to play YOUR part, you become empowered and confident to do YOUR work and let go of the work that is meant for others. You stop fretting over all of the myriad things you cannot control.
This isn’t about being perfect.
This is about being awake—and being humble enough to admit that maybe we don’t have it all figured out.
You’re not here to fix everything.
You’re here to align with your part.
Some of you will speak out.
Some will raise conscious children.
Some will write. Some will pray. Some will build. Some will rest.
Only you know what’s yours to do.
But whatever it is—do it with an open heart, and a deep reverence for the bigger picture.
Because you’re not alone in this.
You are a cell in a much larger organism.
And every shift you make in yourself creates ripples in the world.
The world needs wise women right now more than ever—to value your own kindness and compassion and patience and reverence for beauty and see it as the steadying FORCE the world desperately needs.
Okay, that’s what I have for you, and I will see you next time.
